Teaching in a Village

Just to catch everyone up to date, we had very good medical reports from our time in Dar es Salaam. We were very thankful for that and the safe trip back home to Kondoa.

Things seem to move slowly here, we must wait for invitations to begin small groups. There is a Kiswahili saying, Karibu Tupo (Kaa-ree-boo Two-po), which actually means, you are very wecome here. It is a stronger welcome than just Karibu and we just haven't heard that here in Kondoa. The people are warm and friendly, but for the most part still not that open to us. We did go to a village during October and teach about the biogas generator, solar cooking, grain storage and water purification, but it wasn't among our people group. Both Terry & Nan taugh from scriptures before they taught about having a better life here on earth.

Terry used scriptures from Ecclesiastes chapter 1 and then chapter 12: 13-14, "Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. For God will bring every work into judgment, including every secret things, whether it is good or whether it is evil." We had a good day and were thankful for the opportunity to teach.

We ask that you pr-yerfully consider what God would have to give during the Lottie Moon Christmas offering time. Because of shortfalls in recent years there are fewer new missionaries coming to the fields. People are lost and dying without a hope for an eternity without Christ. Your entire LM offering goes to missionaries on the fields, around the world our budgets are being cut for 2010. Your missionaries are on the fields to share Christ everywhere we go, we are committed to doing that and we not only need your LM offerings, but your continued prayers.

We would love to hear from you, emails or letters. Thanks again for your continued support.

Language School

Thank you for remembering us during the last few days of August. We had good safe trips on all four days. We traveled to Iringa Tanzania in the Southern Highlands on the 31st of August to begin language refrehser. The four weeks went fast and we made good progress in our language. There were things that we had never "learned" and they finally began to "click". We are anxious to get home to begin once again sharing the "Greatest Story".

We are currently in Dar es Salaam for our bi-annual medical checks, some restocking of groceries and some R & R (if you can call driving in Dar R & R). We plan to head home on Saturday the 3rd of October.

We hope to add a picture in the days to come, but have had trouble with downloading. Thank you for your continued pr-ayers.

Mini Expo at our home

After we got back home from the Farmer's Day we held a mini expo at our home for our neighbors. We made announcements and handed them out and had about 50 people come to see the things that we had demonstrated in the government capital. Everything was well received and we had a good afternoon. Here Terry is sharing with two of our neighbor women about the biogas generator.

In the next few days, 8/28 through 30, we will be traveling. Please pr-y for us, for endurance over the roads (most will be dirt), for the Nissan Patrol we drive, for tires, battery and to be alert for people and bicycles around us.

Farmer's Day/Week

Here Nan is showing the biogas generator. We learned very quickly that if we worked in a circle, we would take our visitors from the biogas generator, to storage of corn, solar cooking then water purification using the sun. Sometimes it didn't work, but that was the plan.
On Friday the police were able to return Nan's camera. The boy was spotted in town and when he realized the police were after him he dropped the camera and ran. The camera was recoverd without the SD card, be we had an extra, the boy did get away.
Over the weeks time we gave out about 400 copies about the biogas generator and over 350 of solar cooking and water purification. We learned a lot about what to do next year. From Thursday thru Saturday we were overwhelmed with the numbers of people. We were still able to share our testimonies many times.
Many doors have been opened to us and to teaching, just by us being at the week long event. On Monday, the 10th, 5 women from the district political party came to visit us. They want Nan to teach them about using the biogas generator. There were M women in the group and while they were in our home Nan had an opportunity to pr-y for them. Today, Tuesday, a man from a M village came to ask Terry to come to build a biogas generator.
On Monday, August 17th, we will have a mini demonstration of the things we showed in Dodoma at Farmer's Day/Week at our home. We will be inviting our neighbors to come to see these things. Please pr-y for us and for more open doors for teaching the Word.

Agriculture and Livestock Expo

The celebration of Farmer's Day began on Saturday, August 1st. It has been a good week, we have been interview by radio and television and many people have come to see the biogas generator, solar cookers, water purification using the sun and the grain storage. Today, both Terry & Nan had opportunities to share their testimonies and two young men pr-yed to receive Christ, they are high school students in Dodoma. Pr-y for them as they go back to their villages and school that will share with family and friend their decision and that they will find a church that they can worship in and grow in Christ.

One bad thing, we had our camera stolen on Monday, so we won't be able to show you pictures for the remainder of the week, unless we are able to download pictures from others who have pictures to share.

Please continue to pr-y for us as we share our testimonies and God's great love for all people.

TERRY SHOWS THE BIOGAS GENERATOR

The District Agriculture and Livestock Expo began today, August 1st, and will continue through August 8th, in Dodoma, Tanzania. Many people stopped by our area today to look at the things we were displaying. Here Terry explains to the Prime Minister of Tanzania and many other government officials the biogas generator. There is much interest in this technology and materials are readily available to many Tanzanians because they keep cattle, goats, sheep, hogs and/or donkeys. This biogas generator will last about a month before needing to be "recharged". Pr-y for us to have opportunities to share our testimonies with those who come by our area. Terry shared his testimony yesterday while he was getting our vehicle wheels balanced and today Nan shared her testimony with a lady who was interested in the solar cooker. Pr-y we will be bold in our witness.

District Agriculture and Livestock Expo

We arrived in Dodoma, the government capital of Tanzania, which is about the center of the country of Tanzania, on Saturday, July 25th. The trip wasn't without problems! As you can see from this picture, we lost a tire along the way. The road was very bad and it took us 6 hours from Kondoa to Dodoma. We kept having to stop to hook the tail gate and re-tie some of the ropes. On about our third stop we noticed the missing tire, it wasn't just the tire gone, but the entire wheel hub, on we went very slowly.
Each district of Dodoma have a 5 acre plots to show different things. The district of Kondoa has the building in the background and plots of corn, mtama (grain sorghum), ulemi (finger millet), tomatoes, egg plant, mango and banana trees and other crops and fruits trees. They also plan to have cows, pigs, chickens, fish and goats on display.
We will be showing the biogas generator, you can see the men taking it off the trailer (400 pounds of water and manure), solar cooker, storage of grains, how to make the water clean to drink using the sun, and baking a cake using a kerosene stove. We will also be handing out tracts on how to have a new live in the Spirit and stickers for children that say, Yesu anakupenda (Jesus loves you).
Pray for us as we have opportunities to share not only how to have a better life on earth, but how to have Eternal life in Jesus Christ. For opportunities to share our testimonies and why we are here, in the Kondoa district.
